Capturing trees in any medium is challenging: the grandeur and importance of the tree is difficult to demonstrate in a single image.

I struggle to see some sense of composition, some structure out of nature's wonderful chaos, unlike the likes of Simon Baxter (@baxterphoto), Joe Cornish (@joecornishgallery) and Geoff Kell (@geoffkellphoto) who often succeed so well. I like trees in winter, lost leaves revealing the twisted skeletons of trunk, branch and twig. Looking up at a tree into a bright sky doesn't help, so when we came across this small wood this week, submerged and softened within a foggy morning, I thought I would try again..."
This project culminated in a solo exhibition at the Heron Theatre November 20205-January 2026, with all money raised donated to the Lancaster and District Homeless Action Service.
